Lindbergh High School

November 23 Updates

* No School - Nov. 26, 27

SCHEDULE FOR THE WEEK OF NOV. 23 - 25

Monday, November 23  - Parent/Teacher Conferences  1-4pm, 5-7:30pm    (EARLY DISMISSAL @ 10:20am)
The staff and administration at Lindbergh High School would like to invite you to our annual Parent-Teacher Conference to be held on Monday November 23, 2009.  Conferences will take place in the Lindbergh Main Gym.  Conference times are 1:00-4:00 p.m. or 5:00-7:30 p.m.

Our goal is to increase open communication as well as improve the joint efforts of parents/guardians and teachers at increasing student success.  The first quarter conference is an ideal opportunity to set a solid foundation for student achievement.  Conferences will be held arena style (no appointments will be scheduled) allowing you to attend at your convenience during the stated times.  The flyer handout contains suggestions and guidelines that will provide a satisfactory conference for all participants.
Please realize that time constraints will limit our ability to address all items or concerns, so be selective and limit your focus to two or three issues that are most important to you.  We will be happy to schedule a future appointment with you if you wish to discuss issues further and in greater detail.  Administrators, counselors and support staff will also be available for conferences.  The Lindbergh staff feels that this is one additional step toward strengthening our partnership in the success of your child.

Students will, of course, be curious about the conference, especially when they are asked NOT to attend.

We are excited and eager to establish a positive working relationship with you and would encourage you to plan your schedules for attendance.  See you on November 23rd.

Tuesday, November 24 –  Regular schedule
Wednesday, November 25 – EARLY DISMISSAL @ 10:20am

LHS Staff Dinner, Nov. 23

PTSA and Boosters will be hosting a dinner for the staff on Monday, November 23rd (in between the Parent-Teacher Conferences).  We would like to provide a nice dinner for them, to let them know we appreciate what they will be doing for our kids.  If you can bring a main dish, casserole, salad, appetizer, dessert, juice, or any other item, please deliver it to the school library Monday, Nov. 23rd, no later than 3:30pm.
If you have any questions, or if you can help with any set-up, please e-mail Linda Kawamura at tkawamu@msn.com.  Please also e-mail Linda with if you are planning on bringing something, so she can keep a tally of the food.  Thank you for your anticipated help and support!
UPDATE!  We have received only four responses for food!  We will be feeding at least 100 teachers and staff members, so we need your help!  The PTSA budget is very small, so we rely heavily on parent donations.   Please help us if you can!

The event takes place on the night of graduation beginning at about 10:00 p.m. with organized bus transportation picking up students, traveling to surprise destinations with entertainment, food, and music, and then returning them early in the morning of the following day.  The party is designated as drug and alcohol free.  For security reasons, no "in and out" privileges are extended.

How big an event, where it is held, and what is offered is totally up to US – the senior parents!

GRAD NIGHT GENERAL FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITIES (For ALL Grad Night Committees)

Dealing for Dollars

West Coast Entertainment offers an opportunity to pay down the ticket price.  They are in need of Blackjack Dealers for their party events this holiday season, and are willing to train Grad Night parents to work at these parties.  For each night, you will receive a $50.00 credit, which will pay down your total ticket price.  Kids 16 years and over can train with their parents/guardians.

The biggest benefit for participating in "Dealing for Dollars" is that you can have the entire ticket paid off, with no cost to you.  Training is free.  For example, one couple worked together at the holiday events.  At $50 per person, per event, they paid off their child's ticket in just two events!  To sign up, or for more information, contact Carrie at sidekik@msn.com.

WEB LINKS TO ATHLETIC INFORMATION

Below is information on how to access the athletic schedules and forms that are on our district athletic web pages.

Here is the link to the forms page where we now have high school sports clearance forms (including the new head injury/concussion form we are asking middle schools to use as well) as well as all of our sport specific warning letters:

http://www.rentonschools.us/Departments/Activities_and_Athletics/
AthleticForms

Here is the link to the sport schedules page where we post both the high school and middle school sport schedules (middle schools are on the lower half of the page):

http://www.rentonschools.us/Departments/Activities_and_Athletics/
SportsSchedules

Rather than having each school upload the forms to their own pages, schools will now link to our pages. That way, as we update the schedules or forms, the school page will be current as well.

To find these pages without the above links, you do the following:

1)     Go to the Renton School District home page at www.rentonschools.us
2)     In the menus near the top, just under the photo bar, click on “District Departments”
3)     Scroll down to Extracurricular and click on “Activities and Athletics”
4)     Once on the Activities and Athletics main page, choose the appropriate menu from the left side—Sport Schedules or Athletic Forms

HIGHSCHOOLSPORTS.NET

There is another way to to view games, scrimmages, practices, etc.   For a comprehensive schedule of Fall, Winter, and Spring Sports, scrimmages, practices, clubs (e.g., International, Rocket, Deca, Key, Speech, Chess), parent group meetings, Class events and sales, and much more, go to HighSchoolSports.net.  The direct link is:  http://www.highschoolsports.net/

Click on the tab "My School", and type in Lindbergh High School.   Pick LHS in Renton (NOT the St. Louis one!).  You can view the schedule for two days, the week, month, or the entire season!  This is the most comprehensive schedule yet!  You can also sign up to receive e-mails or text messages, alerting you to changes in the schedule, cancelled games and meets, and scores.

E-mail updates are provided as a courtesy via Lindbergh's PTSA, and are not intended to replace regular U.S. mail, or written material sent through the kids. The updates merely serve as either an additional notice, or a precursor of things to come, and helps rally parents and promote camaraderie.  Please remember to ask for hand-outs from school, and read them!

Please remember to support the PTSA and Lindbergh Boosters Club - they are the main vehicles by which parents can keep informed and in contact with the school and each other!

If you want to be removed from the e-mail list, please e-mail me at sidekik@msn.com.  Please feel free to forward this to other Lindbergh parents, so they will know what is going on!!!
